Habitat for Humanity – Summit County is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are part of an ecumenical, non-denominational, non-profit home building organization that has more than 2,000 affiliates in 117 countries. Here in Colorado, we’re one of over 30 affiliates who form the state support organization, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado (HFHC).

We are a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

We have already completed three single family residences in Summit County.

We are currently building a single family house in Summit County, which is in progress.

Funding for construction comes from contributions and donations, along with a variety of grants. In addition, major corporations support Habitat for Humanity projects by either donating materials or providing them at a deep discount. For example, Whirlpool generously donates refrigerator/freezer and a stove/oven to each Habitat home.

Each affiliate is responsible for raising their own funds and paying for the portion of construction that is not donated. Experience has shown that for every $6.00 we receive in contributions, we receive $1.00 in grants.

Habitat houses are not given away free. Families buy these homes. The family generally makes a nominal down payment and invest 250 hours per adult member working on the house. They also commit to investing the same amount of volunteer time on another Habitat house.

Families complete a course on home ownership and personal finance. Habitat carries the mortgage at 0% interest so the mortgage payments are affordable.

There are have been more than 1,000 homes built in Colorado by Habitat affiliates and their partners.  The next major goal is 1,000 in our state in the next three years.   Join us as we build  in Summit County to help make that dream a reality.
